Linwoods teams up with Giuseppe Dell’Anno to #MakeBreakfastBetter

We enlisted the help of the latest Great British Bake Off champion, Giuseppe Dell’Anno, and leading nutritionist Emma Bardwell, to concoct the ideal breakfast to give people the most positive start to their day.

Aimed at making breakfast better – and helping health-conscious consumers build good habits to go beyond the usual New Year’s resolutions – we worked with Emma on a brief challenging the star baker to come up with a dish that not only looks and tastes great, but that also packs a nutritional punch.

Giuseppe’s creation, a two-course breakfast feast, has not disappointed. His Egg & Smoked Salmon Toast with Cheesy Spinach and Mixed Berry & Flaxseed Smoothie (get the recipe here), which feature a plethora of nutrient-packed ingredients, can be enjoyed together or separately, and are guaranteed to get the day off to a positive start.

As well as being loaded with vitamins A C, D, E and K – plus vital B vitamins and Omega-3 fatty acids – the dishes are also packed with protein and fibre thanks to the use of eggs, oily fish, and Linwoods’ Cold-Milled Flaxseed.

As well as protein and fibre, Linwoods’ Cold-Milled Flaxseed is also a great source of magnesium and Omega-3, while the unique cold milling process not only preserves its nutrients but also aids easy absorption into the body as well as being easily added to meals for a nutritional boost.

The eggs and salmon are excellent sources of EPA, DHA and choline, all of which are ideal for optimal brain health; whilst these two ingredients, along with the flaxseed fibre and polyphenols from the olive oil, help feed the beneficial bacteria that reside in our guts, shown to influence mood. Guiseppe’s dishes are also packed with protein, a macronutrient with a high satiety value which helps you feel fuller for longer.

Nutritonist, Emma Bardwell, said: “Together with Linwoods, we set Giuseppe quite the challenge – to come up with a practically perfect breakfast that would not only set people up for the day nutritionally, but also make them feel like they’ve made a really positive start to their day.

“Starting the morning with a nutritious breakfast has myriad benefits. Ensuring our bodies and brains are well nourished means we have the fuel and focus needed to keep us going right through until lunch, and beyond. I love Giuseppe’s easy-to-throw-together smoothie idea. Brimming with goodness ¬– including antioxidant rich berries, gutfriendly seeds and energy boosting yoghurt – it’s a delicious tasting start to any busy day.

“And the eggs and salmon on toast ticks all the boxes when it comes to healthy breakfasts: protein from the eggs to keep you feeling full, Omega-3 fats from the salmon that are so essential to brain health and fibre from the seeds, spinach and rye bread to help the slow, steady drip-feed of energy. Just as importantly, it’s mouth-wateringly delicious.”

GBBO champion, baker and chef, Giuseppe Dell’Anno, said: “Like most Italians, I’m very fussy when it comes to food. I want my meals to be delicious, visually appealing and, most importantly, healthy. So, although Emma’s brief was very exacting, I could not wait to start testing different options to make breakfast better! After all, I face exactly the same challenge every time I try to concoct new dishes for my own family.

“Also, breakfast is such an important meal, it sets you up for the day, both physically and mentally. Admittedly, not everyone has the time to cook something from scratch in the morning; that’s why I created two dishes. The smoothie is the perfect on-the-go solution, while the eggs and smoked salmon on toast is perfect if you’re working from home – and when you put both together, you have the ideal leisurely weekend breakfast.”

We also made a commitment to make breakfast better for others, by supporting charity Magic Breakfast with a donation of 10,000 breakfasts for schoolchildren at risk of hunger in the UK.

Patrick Woods, Director at Linwoods Health Foods, said: “Our ethos is all about helping consumers make healthier choices by making small, positive changes to improve their diet and overall health and we can’t think of a more important time of year to do just that. January sees millions of people make New Year’s resolutions related to diet and health, and we want to help them succeed in making sustainable changes, like making sure they get the best possible start to the day.

“Giuseppe’s dishes are the perfect inspiration for anyone looking to whip up a breakfast that’s tasty and healthy – and you can’t help but feel positive when you get a great start to the day.

“We’re also thrilled to be supporting Magic Breakfast with a donation to provide 10,000 breakfasts for schoolchildren across the UK. For children in particular, it’s the most important meal of the day and we’re pleased to do our bit to help ensure as many children as possible have access to it.”
