It seems that the lignans in flaxseed have the potential to help improve our cholesterol balance.  

When it comes to a healthy cholesterol balance, it is not just the total cholesterol that is important, but the balance of the good and bad cholesterol.  

HDL (the good stuff) helps your body get rid of excess cholesterol and LDL (the bad one) transports cholesterol to your arteries.  

The good news is that lignans have been associated with reducing overall cholesterol and helping to reduce LDL and improve levels of your HDL. It’s a win-win!

High blood pressure is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, increasing our risk of conditions like like heart attacks and stroke. Also known as hypertension, high blood pressure is regarded as anything above 140/90.  

Lignans found in flaxseeds could be an important ingredient in a diet to help manage blood pressure, thanks to their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. 

It is possible that the anti-inflammatory effects of lignans help to manage the constriction of blood vessels to reduce BP. 

Consistency is key, so getting into the habit of adding flaxseed to your diet every day is what matters. Most of the studies showed the best effects in people taking flaxseed for at least 3 months had the best effect on helping to reduce blood pressure.
