7 Foods that help the skin:
1. Almonds
Vitamin E and Zinc both help your body produce Keratin, which helps to maintain healthy skin, nails and hair. One way to ensure your body is getting a good source of vitamin E is by enjoying almonds on a regular basis. As well as providing your body with the vitamin E that helps protect your skin, almonds also help to promote a healthy heart and they are also a good source of fibre. Be sure to try out our milled flaxseed, almonds, Brazil nuts, walnuts and CO-Q10 mix to enjoy the benefits of this healthy nut.
2. Spinach
Next up on our list is one of Popeye’s favourites, and while we can’t guarantee it will give you bulging biceps, it will help your skin. We’re talking about spinach of course. This leafy green vegetable is low in calories, allowing you to fill up without going overboard on your daily calorie intake. Spinach is rich in vitamins A, C and K, while also providing your body with a great source of magnesium, another mineral that helps promote healthy skin and strong bones.
3. Flaxseed
Flaxseed is one of nature’s best sources of omega 3, something which can help those of you with irritable skin. It will also help to hydrate your skin due to the high omega 3 levels which help maintain healthy cells, so add some milled organic flaxseed to your diet to ensure you get these benefits straight away. Flax seed is also a good source of calcium and zinc, both of which also help us to maintain healthy skin and bones.
4. Peppers
Peppers can add great colour and flavour to some of your favourite meals, and also help the skin by helping to reduce wrinkles, particularly around the eyes. The carotenoids (antioxidants) found in yellow and orange vegetables like peppers, can help to decrease the skins sensitivity to the sun, helping to reduce the impact of wrinkles. Mixed peppers can also be a good source of vitamin C and E.
5. Sunflower Seeds
Rich in vitamin E, sunflower seeds help us to maintain healthy skin, hair and nails. The seeds also contain zinc which helps boost your immune system. Add a cupful of sunflower seeds to your daily diet and enjoy their great benefits which not only help your skin, but also benefit your nerves and muscles, and can help to lower cholesterol. Add two spoonfuls of Linwoods milled organic sunflower and pumpkin seeds to your cereal or yoghurt in the morning, to start enjoying these benefits immediately. The pre-milled process makes it easier for your body to absorb the essential minerals from this mix.
6. Tuna
Another great food for the skin is tuna, especially canned tuna that many of us enjoy in lunchtime sandwiches. Tuna is a great source of selenium (as are many nuts), and this helps to preserve the protein elastin, which helps to keep the skin tight and smooth. The antioxidants in tuna also help to prevent damage to skin cells from UV exposure. Another great fish to enjoy that will help your skin is salmon which is a good source of omega oils.
7. Pomegranate
Pomegranate is one of the latest super foods to become fashionable, and with its great taste and amazing health benefits, it’s easy to see why. Pomegranate is packed with polyphenol antioxidants and is also a great source of vitamin C, E and zinc, all of which our skin really benefits from. Enjoy a glass of pomegranate juice or sprinkle some seeds over a salad or into a natural yoghurt to enjoy this tasty and healthy fruit.
As well as adding these 7 foods to your diet, one way of ensuring your skin stays healthy is by keeping it hydrated and regularly drinking water. We should all try to get at least 2 litres of water per day into our diet.
