You are what you eat – 9 foods to help your skin, hair and teeth

3 Foods that are good for your skin:

1. Pumpkin seeds

Pumpkins are much more than a way of entertaining the kids at Halloween – they can also be a great way of looking after your skin thanks to the great benefits of their seeds. Pumpkin seeds are a great source of zinc which helps to protect the skin cells and maintain and promote healthy skin. Pumpkin seeds can be enjoyed on their own as a snack or sprinkled into natural yoghurt. Give your skin a real boost with Linwoods organic sunflower and pumpkin seeds, adding the great vitamin E power that comes from sunflower seeds.

2. Carrots

They recently made our list of 5 veggies for everyone to enjoy, and carrots are not only a tasty and versatile vegetable, they are also great for your skin. Carrots are high in beta carotene which the body converts into vitamin A. This helps to repair skin tissues and can help protect your skin from the powerful rays from the sun. Check out our carrot and flaxseed cake recipe for a great way to enjoy carrots all year round.

3. Water

While it’s not necessarily a food, the most important thing for healthy skin is that it is kept hydrated, and this is done by drinking water. Water also flushes the toxins out of your body providing your cells with nutrients that help to keep your skin looking clearer. It is recommended that you drink at least 2 litres of water a day and try to start every day with a glass of cold water.

3 Foods that are good for your hair:

1. Walnuts:

Walnuts are a great source of omega 3 fatty acids and rich in both vitamin E and biotin, all of which help protect your hair cells from damage, particularly from the sun. Enjoy the hair benefits of walnut with the skin benefits of almond by trying out our milled flax seed, almonds, Brazil nuts, walnuts & CO-Q10 mix.

2. Lentils:

Low in cholesterol and high in protein and fibre, these tiny legumes are a great source of biotin which can help reduce the risk of hair loss, while also being a great source of iron and zinc, helping you to maintain a healthy scalp.

3. Blueberries:

Tasty and extremely healthy – blueberries are a great source of vitamin C which helps support the blood vessels that feed your hair follicles. A lack of vitamin C in your diet can lead to hair damage, so try to maintain a healthy balance of fruit in your diet with blueberries, strawberries and oranges, all of which are a great source of vitamin C. You can also start each day with a tasty fruit smoothie using 2 spoonfuls of Linwoods flaxseed, cocoa and berries.

3 Foods that are good for your teeth:

1. Oranges:

Not only is the vitamin C from oranges great for maintaining healthy hair, it can also be great for your teeth. It may be a bit surprising, but citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits are packed with vitamin C that helps reduce inflammation of the gums and also helps to strengthen the blood vessels and tissues that connect your teeth to your jaw. So remember to think citrus when it comes to keeping your dental hygiene in check.

2. Strawberries:

Another fruit that is packed full of vitamin C is strawberries. Half a cup of strawberries can deliver more than 70% of your RDA of vitamin C allowing your body to create the protein collagen, which helps maintain strong, healthy gums. Healthy gums play a key role in good oral health, so add some strawberries to your diet on a daily basis.

3. Milk:

Last on our list is milk, and while this may not be a food, the high source of calcium and phosphorus that milk provides, plays a big role in fighting against gum disease, and helping you to maintain healthy teeth. Dairy products like milk and cheese are a great way to get calcium to your diet on a regular basis, so be sure to these to your diet where possible.
